Gnädinger Manfred, a dreamer and an inhabitant of the planet

"Respect the legacy of man"

time ago I found a character who never before me had spoken. I had already experienced similar stories in distant countries, but when I introduced the character of Man and his legacy, I am comforted to think that in this country had an equivalent to those enlightened minds seemed to exist only in San Francisco during the 60, and his heirs recluses isolated in geodesic domes in Europe.

Gnädinger Manfred, German camel was a unique man, and so unique was that very few people know what he did, but when you know your life for a moment , and smile. Loco, a visionary, a shaman, or an artist might, Manfred was devoted to live in isolation but in harmony with the world for over 30 years in an ecosystem created by him, admired by others, but also destroyed by these.

Gnädinger was a German who came to the Costa da Morte, Galicia, 1962. There, off the coast, built a home, and devoted his life to his garden and stone sculptures made curious marine, who were to be confused with the environment. Over thirty years spent living art, but also to other visual arts made him a local attraction, that, with her hermit-looking long hair and white beard, wearing only a loincloth, made the time to do; and way of life, lived without electricity, was a vegetarian and only ate what he grew, played the ecological sensitivity of some people.

His art was curious stone sculptures and animal remains of marine flora and integrate with the piece of beach and coastline. The only thing that Man was asking alms to maintain their live show after his death, and that visitors draw in notebooks their concept of what they had seen.

His death is certainly a reminder of the fragility of life and tremendous evil that can become human beings. In November 2002 the Prestige tanker caused havoc on the Galician coast, and one of the worst affected areas was, unfortunately, home of Man all his life destroyed by oil spilled into the water, their black art. I do not doubt that that was the reason why Man dies a month and a half later. Those who knew him were quick to say that man had died of sadness. In one of the few man made recent appearances in the media, he said: "I would kill me not to kill me for my work."
